Almsgiving to the Monks

Each morning Monks leave their Wat (monastery temple in Cambodia, Thailand, or Laos) with an almsbowl. The monks walk in a line with the oldest monks in front. People place ready to eat foods in the bowl. The food is prepared rice, fruit, bottled water and meats.

The food is not charity, but a way for lay Buddhists to show respect to Monks. The Monks live from these offerings. The offerings form a connection between the people and the Monks.
